Day of Dead 2022 (Día de los Muertos) is a traditional holiday celebrated by Mexicans on November 2. On Nov 2, it is highly believed by the people that the souls of the dead return to visit their living family members. Many people around the world celebrate Day of the dead in 2022 by visiting the graves of deceased loved ones, relatives and setting up altars with their favourite foods, drink, dress and photos.

La Catrina, the most recognizable figure of Day of Dead 2022, a towering female skeleton along with vibrant make-up and a flamboyant feathered hat. The Lady of Death worshiped by the Aztecs protected their departed relatives or loved ones, guiding these people through their final stages of the life and death cycles.

La Catrina, in the early 1900s by controversial and political cartoonist José Guadalupe Posada. Artist and husband of Frida, Diego Rivera, added José’s La Catrina in one of his murals which depicted 400 years of Mexico’s great history.

His mural, -Dreams of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park, that includes himself and a young kid holding hands with La Catrina, who is dressed-up in sophisticated garb and a fancy feathered hat.

Plans for Day of Dead 2022are made throughout the month and year as well. Toys and game accessories are offered to dead children and alcohol bottles or jars of alote get offered to dead adults.

Most families and relatives decorate their loved ones’ graves with ofrendas, including marigolds. These specific flowers attract the souls of the dead relatives or loved ones to the offerings. The bright petals, power and strong scent guides the souls from the cemetery to their family’s home.

North and South Korea – Autumn Eve- the holiday is celebrated for 3 days straight in either September or October every year.

Cambodia – 15th day of the 10th month in the Khmer calendar that falls in September month.

Nepal – The first day of the dark 4 nights according to the lunar Nepal. This is usually in August or September month every year
